Subbaiah hospital is a tertiary based multi-speciality hospitalwith one of the best doctors in the country.
The medical centre is founded as a teaching hospital of Subbaiah Medical College (now Subbaiah Institute of Medical Science) established under Sec.3 of the U.G.C. Act 1956 with the intention of translating the experience and expertise in medical education into affordable health care. SMCH is a leader in health care delivery in Shimoga providing state-of-art care for patients. The medical centre is located in a sprawling 25 acre campus that is lush green throughout the year.
Subbaiah hospital is fully functional with all facilities and advanced technology. Students are provided with adequate opportunities to interact with patients and gain first hand clinical experience. The hospital houses various departments, respective wards, Trauma and Emergency services which are available 24X7. Well-trained Casualty Medical Officers who are assisted by a number of senior and junior doctors are accessible to 12 Operation Theatres. The hospital has one of the best Radiology centers in Karnataka, having state-of-the-art MRI machine, Spiral CT Scanner, Mammography machine, High-Resolution Color Doppler, the latest Ultrasound machine and latest X-ray machines (800mA, 500mA, 300mA, 100mA, dental x-ray, mobile x-ray).

Subbaiah Medical College is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University of Health sciences centered in Bangalore, India. The University was set up in the year 1996 by government of Karnataka for the regulation and promotion of higher education in health sciencesthroughout the state.
The teaching hospital is operated under the recognition of Medical Council of India (MCI), which is a statutory body under the governance of Ministry of Health & Family Welfare. The aim and responsibility of MCI is to maintain high standards of medical education and recognition of medical qualifications in India.

Subbiah medical college does not have any facilities as mentioned above, it has less than 20 teaching staff, no CT scan or MRI, no radiologist, casualaity is managed by ayurvedic doctor dr jayadev and RMP dr george, USG done by Dr nagendra who does not no ABC of usg. add this they collect huge money from students both merit and management, no gynecologist is available.. less than 5 nursing staff. only good thing is they have good building.. patient input is pathetic less than 10 opd patient.
